Frequently Asked Questions

What will my child be eating?

The snacks and/or meals served to children offer a well-balanced and nutritious variety of foods that follow the Food and Nutrition Regulations for Child Care Settings; vegetarian choices are offered as well.  Four separate weekly menus are developed and changed seasonally.  These are repeated on a four-week rotation schedule. Apple Tree Landing is a peanut safe environment. We are also a breast-feeding friendly environment.

What happens on a storm day?

In the event of a snowstorm and school is cancelled, every effort will be made to open Apple Tree Landing Family Education Centre at the usual time in the morning.

We do not open when the weather is severe, there is a power outage or when an there is a road advisory. If we are open, we will close in the event of a power outage, a road advisory or if we feel it is not safe for children or ATL staff to be on the roads.  Our priority is the safety of our children/families/staff. Notices about centre closures will be posted on our Facebook page as well as local radio stations (Rewind 94.9 and K-rock 89.3).

What training do the child educators have?

Apple Tree Landing follows the regulations set by the Department of Education and Early childhood Development, which requires a minimum of 2/3’s of staff to be trained with a level 1 certification or higher. The Executive Director and Assistant Director both maintain a minimum level 2 certification. All staff working directly with children have an up to date Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, current First Aid/CPR-C training and have all signed the Behaviour Guidance Policy. Staff members participate in regular professional development.
